Alabama’s Port is more than just the Port Authority. It is made up of private operators, dedicated employees, and a vast network of businesses and industries that feed our terminals.
As part of our work to deliver for Alabama, the Port is proud to announce a new, industry-wide initiative, Blue Alliance, which takes a comprehensive look at powering a strong economy, creating a healthy environment, cultivating research and innovation, and being good stewards of Alabama’s incredible natural resources. Together, we are building a better future for Alabama.

We understand that a healthy environment is the base of a resilient economy and essential to sustaining the multibillion-dollar industries that depend on Alabama’s coastal waterways.

We actively engage with community groups, nonprofits, the public school system, and higher education entities to form a strong network of aligned partnerships.
03. Innovation
We’re working with universities across the state and leveraging programs like Innovate Alabama and the Alabama Water Institute to drive research and innovation.
Port Stewardship
Blue Alliance builds on the Port’s longstanding commitment to environmental stewardship. The Green Marine program, for which the Port has been certified since 2018, is the largest voluntary environmental certification program in North America. The program provides a framework for the maritime industry to reduce its environmental footprint, backed up by independent verification of each participant’s results every two years. Guiding principles include annual corporate leadership approval; minimized environmental impact in operations/activities; development and promotion of environmental protection measures; and integration of sustainable practices.
